The MLTSS Association submitted recommendations for the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to establish a distinct standard occupational classification (SOC) code for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) in 2028. Our comments address how this change is crucial to tackle the significant workforce shortages and high turnover rates affecting the delivery of high-quality, person-centered care for individuals with disabilities and older adults. A new SOC code for DSPs would enable more accurate workforce data collection, inform better policy decisions, and ensure adequate compensation, thereby improving the stability and effectiveness of care. The MLTSS Association has also joined ANCOR's sign-on letter that advocates for the incorporation of a distinct code for DSPs. Our association appreciates the OMB's ongoing efforts and is eager to continue discussions on these critical revisions.
