On April 29th, the MLTSS Association sent a letter to Abe Sutton (Director, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation) and Gary Bacher (Chief Strategy Officer, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation), focused on the impacts of the recent Reductions in Force at the Medicare-Medicaid Coordination Office (MMCO). In this letter, the Association expressed our gratitude for Director Sutton and Officer Bacher’s leadership at CMMI through this period of transition, and our commitment to working with CMMI to improve health care for high-need, high-cost Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries.

In our letter, we outlined several key functions of MMCO, and asked if they will continue under the new structure, and if so, who will serve as the points of contact. These key functions of MMCO include:

  1. Review of State Medicaid Agency Contracts (SMACs)

  2. Meetings with health plans

  3. Production of Health Plan Management System (HPMS) memos related to D-SNPs and Applicable Integrated Plans (AIPs)

  4. Technical assistance to states

  5. Review of member materials for integrated plans

  6. The impacts of the closures of regional offices
